My client is looking for a Technical Engineer / Network Engineer to apply their skills in an initial 12 week contract carrying out Network Administration on a medium sized network of servers, desktop systems and communications devices using current technologies. 

Working closely with the Technical Managers and Project Managers, the post holder will participate in the project delivery responsibilities for the technical aspects of IT Services – which include Networks (SAN, LAN, WAN, iSCSI, Telephony and IP Telephony), VmWare, applications and reporting systems.

To fulfil this role you must have aclean driving licence and ability to travel between sites in Essex 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY :

 

  • To manage the provision of network services, in particular:

o   to consult with, and advise where appropriate, the Senior Technical Specialist Manager on the design of any significant extension to, or modification of, the LAN/WAN;

o   to collaborate with internal managers and external contractors in reviewing the networks design by implementing new networking technologies to ensure that LAN/WAN is fit for the business needs;

o   to carrying out of site-surveys (where appropriate) as an essential pre-requisite to any changes the LAN/WAN;

o   liaising with external contractors on the implementation (as to timescales, to budgetand specification) of all changes to the LAN/WAN;

o   the maintenance (including preventative maintenance where appropriate), repair and upgrading of all LAN/WAN equipment;

·         To plan, develop, implement, document and review procedures and processes to improve ‘third level’ technical functionality. and store in an easily accessible central repository.

·         Provide senior technical support as a 3rd line escalation point.

 

Required skills/experience

  • Have an extensive knowledge in all Cisco Networking technologies including Routing, Switching, Wireless LAN, Voice and Security solutions.

  • Cisco CCNA Certification; or equivalent experience

  • Familiarity with Virtualisation techniques, VMWare an advantage.

  • Knowledge of delivering services in an ITIL V2/V3 service environment

  • Proven ability in the configuration and use of Cisco Unified Communications Manager & Unity voice messaging.

  • Symantec Backup Solutions

  • Familiarity with Data Centre operating standards and specifications

  • Experience of remote fixes, via DameWare, RDP or other terminal services

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Cisco products: Network switching; Unified Communications Manager; Unity; IP UCCX; Wireless; Security and Management (Cisco ASA, IPS, CX & Anyconnect, RSA Security)

  • WAN routing

  • VMware experience

  • Significant experience of remote administration.

  • SAN Technologies

  • Server Backup & Restore Technologies
